CLUB SILENCIO

David Lynch is opening a new night club on the Rue Montmarte in Paris patterned after a club of the same name in his 2001 masterpiece Mulholland Dr. (2001). "CLUB SILENCIO" is scheduled to open in September of 2011, just over ten years after the film's release. The club will feature furniture personally designed by Lynch, a concert hall, a movie theater, and an art gallery (news source).

France is an apt setting for the club since David Lynch won the award for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival when he first premiered Mulholland Dr. (2001). And although we have heard no news indicating what kind of presentations are planned for the concert hall, we hope Lynch develops many original live performances for it along the lines of the "No Hay Banda!" sequence from his film.
We also hope this sets a precedent for David Lynch to create similarly themed facilities in the future. Like a night club patterned after the Red Room or The Roadhouse in Twin Peaks (1990-91), where you could gather to eat, drink, dance, and listen to live performances like the denizens of his acclaimed TV series.

David Lynch has a talent for crafting beautifully dream-like atmospheres for his films, a talent that should serve him well in this new undertaking. Lynch has a talent of creating worlds on screen that we want to return to time and again, so we are excited finally to have a chance to visit one of them in person.
Mulholland Drive (2001) is available on an excellent DVD with a DTS soundtrack personally overseen by the film's director David Lynch. We recently released an article with our analysis of the film and as we mention in the article, we could make a good case for the film being considered Lynch's career-long masterpiece.
